Trends: Painted Furniture

The easiest way to update anything is paint.  Paint changes the look and if you're unhappy, paint it again.  Check out how these ladies used the power of paint to transform their furniture pieces.


Meg and Mum's painted this dresser and chair.  Love the pop of pink against the black.  The fabric is nice too.


This table by Fab Rehab Creations would fit so well in my family room.

Creatively Living painted an upholstered chair.  Wow.  I've passed by so many chairs because I didn't want to re-cover them but never thought to paint them.

Love the painted bar stools by The Casablanca Transformation.  They look great in her kitchen.


I love that A Charming Nest made the Ikea Rast her own with some paint and stain.

    I too love painted furniture. It's so fun and can be a great pop of color in a room. I haven't painted any lately, but I'm hoping to get a dresser soon and paint it yellow for our guest room which is gray and yellow-themed.

    Wow, glad you liked my littld "biblical" chest of drawers!!! The others are great too - LOVE the upholstered barstools!!! Always look at furniture for what it COULD BE not for the ugly thing it is at Goodwill. HAHA

Wall Mounted TV and Hiding The Cords

We mounted the loft TV on the wall last week.  We knew we didn't want those ugly cords connected to the TV to be seen.  I had done a few searches to see what our options were for hiding them.  Turns out, there are several.  My least favorite was the cord cover and I knew that wasn't going to work for me. Here are the pieces we bought from Home Depot.  They are wall plates that allow you to pull the cords through but keep them hidden in the wall. After we figured out where we wanted the holes, using the template in the package, we cut a hole right under the TV mount for the cords coming from the TV.  It made me a little nervous cutting a hole in the wall.  The cords also needed a place to exit at the bottom.  We cut the second hole straight down from the top one, right next to the outlet where the cords would be plugged in. To make it easier to get the dropped cords, we installed the top plate first.  It just goes into the hole and the screws tighten it against

Sunburst In The Dining Room

I've been looking for a round mirror for the stenciled wall in the dining room but have had no such luck.  We tried a larger piece of art on that wall but the colors and patterns didn't mesh well with the stencil already there.  I needed something dark and pretty solid to stand out against the stencil.  I decided a sunburst mirror would fit this space nicely.  I made one for my daughter's room with skewers but knew that one would be too small for this spot.  I wanted it to be thick and dark.  After seeing several versions, I decided to use paint sticks.  They are free and thick enough to make an impact on the wall.  I had some extra in the garage at home since we had started painting other rooms in the house already.  I would always grab a couple extra on each paint trip to Home Depot.  I also bought a 12 inch round beveled mirror from Hobby Lobby.  It was half off candles sale so it came to $4.00.  I had the rest of the supplies at home. Installing Ikea Lack Shelves

I have wanted built-ins somewhere in my home for forever. They look so classic and they are extra spot to house beautiful home decor pieces. I have seen many a hack for turning the Ikea Billy bookcase into built-ins but I kept debating whether I was up for the challenge. Were built-ins too much for me? In my head I wanted something simpler too.  In my searches for DIY built-ins I kept coming across floating shelves. I love the modernness of them. The clean lines. The way they just seem to be coming out of the wall. There were times where I would browse Homegoods and Target seeing all the pretty things I could put on shelves. Alright done. Floating shelves it was. Once I decided on floating shelves, the debate was whether I wanted to build them or just buy them. Building them meant I could make them the exact size I wanted them to be.
